This lecture covers all aspects related to understand ecological systems in urbanized areas, such as climate, soil, vegetation, wild life, water, development, built environment. The goal is to assess and to investigate ecological processes in urbanized areas and link their relevance to a sustainable urban development as well as to aspects of health. Regional differences of urban agglomerations are discussed.
