GRACE and CEDIM Winter School "Meteorological Extremes - Thunderstorms, Floods, Heat Waves and Water Shortage"
Overview
Extreme weather events like floods, storms, hail, heatwaves, and water shortages are becoming more frequent and severe, posing critical challenges to societies and ecosystems in the face of climate change. Understanding the causes, impacts, and management of these events is vital for building resilience and mitigating risks.
You are welcome to join us from February 17 to 21, 2025 in Freudenstadt for an engaging Winter School that brings GRACE PhD researchers together to delve into the science and implications of weather extremes. The program includes lectures on topics such as the frequency of extreme events, flood dynamics, thunderstorms and hail, heatwaves, winter storms, and water supply issues. Participants will also benefit from interactive elements, including a poster session and a session on networking.
This Winter School offers the opportunity to gain scientific insights, develop practical skills, and connect with other PhD researchers and topic experts. Exchange within the PhD network, expand your understanding of how climate change is transforming our environment, and learn how to address this important global issue.
Topics
- Climate change and frequency of extreme events
- Severe thunderstorms and hail
- Floods
- Heat waves and droughts
- Impact of heat waves on water supply and vegetation
